Daphnia???
How do I get daphnia? Is there some way to attract them or do they just start growing or something.
How do I get live daphnia without purchasing them?

Daphnia are actually water fleas. You can usually buy them frozen from your local pet store. We buy it for some of our fish and that's where we get ours from.
Edit: You would probably have better luck buying a culture from somewhere than catching them. They are very small and they may not even live in all bodies of water.

Here is a link to a site where you can purchase a starter culture. If you are a member of a local aquarium club, you might be able to get a culture from one of the members.

cc woman is right. I just wanted to add that if you try catching live food from the wild there is no way to control it's cleanliness.

If you want to get them from the wild, you'll need to find a pond that has it. But it is more than likely illegal to capture wildlife from where daphnia are, so just buy them instead.
They are not bacteria, they won't grow just anywhere. They are not just fleas too, so don't attract daphnia the same way you would attract fleas.

just buy them from the store, tip them in a net and wash them first.
or you could use brine shrimp.
it'll be too much trouble to try and grow your own from a kit. unless you were going to have a big tank set aside just to grow them in. but really, it would be just easier to buy them.

Getting live daphnia without purchasing them, here's how:
1.) Ask a starter culture from another hobbyist.
2.) Go to a local pond, and catch your own. Be careful though, catching live daphnia means also catching some nasty critters along with it.
3.) Join an aquarium club, and ask a fellow member for a starter culture.
Daphnia don't just start growing (you need to have a starter culture to reproduce them) and there is no way of attracting them into a body of water beside inoculating a few live ones into it.
